QUALITY COUNSELLING IN MELBOURNE
At Foundation Psychology Victoria we use evidence-based therapies tailored to our clients’ needs to achieve the best outcomes.
Psychotherapy is a collaborative treatment based on the relationship between an individual and a psychologist. Through building a trusting partnership and a supportive environment you and your psychologist will work together to identify and change the thought and behaviour patterns that are keeping you from feeling your best.
If you’re a private or reserved person, you might be a bit nervous about opening up to someone you don’t know. However, a good psychologist will make you feel comfortable, and over time you can actually feel quite safe about being honest in therapy. And, of course, confidentiality is at the core of psychologist’s strict code of ethics.
Maybe you’ve been to counselling before and it didn’t help you. Perhaps the therapist was dismissive or didn’t provide any helpful strategies. Remember that each psychologist is different, and use different styles and theories. Instead of writing off the entire process, look for a psychologist who uses a different approach, has a high level of training and whose personality fits yours.
Yes, coming to counselling will cost some money. Think of counselling as an investment in your life — it’s worth it in the long run. Research has consistently shown that therapy is a cost effective way to improve happiness, life satisfaction and health. And Medicare covers the majority of the fee and in some cases there will be little out of pocket expense (to learn more about Medicare rebates, click here).
Are any of these holding you back from overcoming anxiety or depression?
